Who Are We?
Taxi Driving Solutions are the North of England’s leading provider of “Taxi Driving Tests & Training” solutions. When the DVSA announced its decision to end taxi driving assessments, it left councils without a reliable form of testing potential taxi drivers. We have been providing advanced driving tests and driver assessments to organisations for over 25 years including the Road Passenger Vehicle Driving (Taxi and Private Hire) NVQ’s and Emergency Response Driving and Assessments and as such we are in a unique position to fill that gap. Our trainers go through a rigorous selection and training programme and are amongst the highest qualified in our profession including ‘Emergency Response’ driver trainers and former DVSA examiners. This will ensure that when you take your Taxi Test with us you can rest assured you will be assessed by a professional DVSA registered trainer.
There are 2 types of assessment you can take:
- the standard Taxi assessment
- the enhanced Taxi assessment – this includes a wheelchair exercise
The assessment will last for 50 minutes (65 minutes for the enhanced assessment). You will pass the assessment if you make 9 faults or fewer. You will fail if you make a serious or dangerous fault. The test is in 5 parts including, eyesight and licence check, vehicle checks, general driving ability, reversing and independent driving. The grading system used is in line with current DVSA standards. The standard for the taxi assessments is set at a level suitable for a qualified driver wishing to carry passengers and is therefore higher than the standard test for learner drivers. As a professional driver you have a special responsibility to ensure that your passengers have a safe, comfortable and enjoyable journey.
“We started working with TDS in 2002 when we commissioned them to carry out our driver assessments and training programmes. At the NHS we have a number of varied demands and role specific requirements from patient transport to blue light response driving. Time and again they have tailored courses and assessments to our specific needs and challenges to a standard that exceeded our expectations. Our blue light emergency response drivers are trained and maintained with regular assessments by TDS. They have become an indispensable part of the running and efficiency of our department”.
