Taxi Tests

Taxi Driving Solutions are the North of England’s leading supplier of Taxi Driving Assessments and training solutions. We have been delivering training to qualified drivers for over 25 years including the Road Passenger Vehicle Driving (Taxi and Private Hire) NVQ.

As soon as you have booked your assessment an examiner will contact you within 72 hours to arrange a date, time and location. See below for details of the tests and vehicle requirements. If you have any queries your examiner will clarify at the time of booking the test.

Book Your Test

Standard Taxi Assessment

The assessment will last for 50 minutes. You will pass the assessment if you make 9 faults or fewer. You will fail if you make a serious or dangerous fault. The vehicle used for the test must meet the same standard as required for the DVSA car driving test but without ‘L’ plates. You are permitted to use a hire car.You must bring a current valid driving licence and proof of insurance cover which will be checked by your examiner at the start of the test.

The assessment will include:

  • vehicle checks
  • 2 manoeuvres where you’ll be asked to turn your vehicle round in the road
  • around 10 minutes of driving whilst being directed by a sat nav
  • drive on a variety of roads with varied speed limits safely and with due consideration to other road users
  • demonstrate eco-safe driving
  • stops at the side of the road as if a passenger is getting in or out
  • questions from The Highway Code and identifying traffic signs and road markings

If you pass you will be given a copy of the test report, a pass certificate and a full debrief by your examiner. If you fail you will be given a debrief and a copy of the test report.

A guide will be provided once you have booked your assessment.

Cancellations. We require at least 72 hours notice to cancel a test, no refunds will be made after this time.

Enhanced Taxi Assessment

The enhanced (including wheelchair exercise) assessment will last for 65 minutes. You will pass the assessment if you make 9 faults or fewer. You will fail if you make a serious or dangerous fault. The vehicle used for the test must meet the same standard as required for the DVSA car driving test but without ‘L’ plates. You are permitted to use a hire car.You must bring a current valid driving licence which will be checked by your examiner at the start of the test.

Wheelchair exercise. If you’re taking the enhanced assessment – you must bring a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

You’ll need to demonstrate your ability to:

  • safely load and unload the wheelchair in your vehicle
  • use the wheelchair brakes to secure and release it
  • fasten the seat belts or safety harness
  • secure any wheel belts or clamps fitted to your vehicle

The driving assessment will include:

  • around 10 minutes of driving whilst being directed by a sat nav

Post Incident Enforcement Test

Our Post Incident Enforcement Tests are incident driven tests that can be introduced as the result of driving licence violations (speeding, mobile phone use etc), complaints or at fault road traffic incidents.

This assessment will last for 50 minutes. It is biased towards the reported incident. You will pass the assessment if you make 6 faults or fewer. You will fail if you make a serious or dangerous fault. The vehicle used for the test must meet the same standard as required for the DVSA car driving test but without ‘L’ plates. You are permitted to use a hire car.You must bring a current valid driving licence which will be checked by your examiner at the start of the test.

The assessment will include:

  • vehicle checks
  • 2 manoeuvres where you’ll be asked to turn your vehicle round in the road
  • around 10 minutes of driving whilst being directed by a sat nav
